Small and medium-sized enterprises created the majority of value added at factor cost in the service sector

In 2006, small and medium-sized enterprises (i.e. having up to 249 persons employed) created much more than a half (69.6%) of value added at factor cost in service activities (sections G – wholesale and retail, repair of motor vehicles, personal and household goods, H – hotels and restaurants, I – transport, storage and communication and K – real estate, renting and business activities). The exception was the section of transport, storage and communication where these enterprises created 37.7% of value added at factor cost in this activity.

Almost EUR 6 billion investments in tangible goods in 2006

Enterprises in observed activities (in addition to the mentioned service activities also C – mining and quarrying, D – manufacturing, E – electricity, gas and water supply, and F – construction) created EUR 5,715 million investment in tangible goods in 2006. In the activity of real estate, renting and business activities enterprises created EUR 719 million of those investments in 2006, of which small end medium-sized enterprises created almost the entire amount (99.2%).

More than half of employees worked in small and medium-sized enterprises

In 2006 more than half of employees working in the observed activities of structural business statistics worked in small and medium-sized enterprises. The majority (118,808) was employed in the activity of manufacturing.
