Interest in learning languages continues to grow.. The share of people attending verified continuing education programmes increased as well.


Compared to the total number of people attending continuing education programmes, the share of people attending language courses is up


In the school year 2006/2007 the continuing education providers organised 4,017 language courses and registered 5% more participants than in the previous school year. In the school year 2005/2006 people attending language courses represented 9.1% of all people attending continuing education programmes, while in the school year 2006/2007 the share grew to 9.6%. The majority of the participants studied English and the second most popular language was German. Interest is learning Russian is growing, while interest in learning French is slightly falling. Interest of foreigners to learn the Slovene language is also growing.


In addition to Italian, Spanish and Russian, participants also learned Czech, Hungarian, Danish, Dutch, Portuguese and Swedish, and even Japanese, Chinese and Arabic.


The majority of continuing education programmes are provided by organizations specialized in adult education


In the school year 2006/2007, 348 providers of continuing education registered 268,754 participants. Most of them (205,101) participated in non-verified programmes; most of them, 80%, in professional programs for the needs of performing an occupation, and only 17.1% in programs for general needs and leisure time.

Driving schools still have the largest attendance among the verified programs

In verified programmes 37,839 participants were registered. The share of people attending verified programmes grew from 12.8% in the school year 2005/2006 to 14.1% in the school year 2006/2007. Most of them were registered in training programs for which no prior education is required, and in qualification programmes after elementary school. As many as 81.4% of participants were registered in programmes in the field of services, into which driving schools are also classified; however, this is slightly less than in the previous school year, which indicates that interest in other fields is increasing.
