Monday, June 30, 2008, First Release
According to provisional data, in October 2006 the average gross earnings per paid hour for women amounted to SIT 1,554 (EUR 6.48) and for men to SIT 1,635 (EUR 6.82). Thus women earned on average 95.0% of the average gross earnings of men.
The structure of earnings survey is an internationally comparable survey on earnings This survey is carried out every fourth year in the EU Member States, on the basis of the regulations of the European Commission and Council which determine in detail the definitions used and the mode of its implementation. Data on gross earnings are collected for the reference month of the year (October for Slovenia), and for the year when the survey is implemented. The survey data indicate the amount and also the structure of earnings, according to the demographic characteristics of persons in employment and characteristics of business entities. The survey is important as it enables international comparability of the data on earnings within the European union.
The difference between a man's and woman's earnings amounts to 5.0% According to the internationally accepted standards used for the calculation of the differences between men's and women's pays, where gross earnings for paid hours are used as the basis, in 2006 in Slovenia women's earnings were on average 95.0% of men's gross earnings. Gross earnings per paid hour of a woman amounted to SIT 1,554 (EUR 6.48), while gross earnings per paid hour of a man were on average SIT 1,635 (EUR 6.82). There is difference in earnings by sex, due to different number of men and women by activities, occupations, school education, age and other factors.
Women earned more than men in activities construction and electricity, gas and water supply In 2006 in most activities men earned on average more than women, except in activities construction and electricity, gas and water supply. The reasons therefore are to be traced in the professional and educational structure, as in these two activities there were higher share of women with higher school educational level and better paid occupations than their male counterparts. Compared to gross earnings of men, in activity construction gross earnings of women were on average 19.1% higher and in activity electricity, gas and water supply 4.1% higher than those of men. The highest difference between man and women earnings, almost 30%, was in activity health and social work.
Highest average earnings in large business entities In business entities with a large number of persons in paid employment, in 2006 average gross earnings were on average higher than those in business entities with less numerous persons in paid employment. The highest annual gross earnings were those in large business entities (250 persons in paid employment and more), amounting to SIT 3,752,015 (EUR 15,657) per person in paid employment, whereas in the micro business entities (less then 10 persons in paid employment) the average gross earnings amounted to SIT 2,654,023 (EUR 11,075) per person in paid employment.
Older persons in paid employment earn 3.6-times more than their younger counterparts The comparison of earnings by age classes shows that in 2006 the older persons in paid employment on average earned 3.6-times more than the younger ones. Thus the highest average annual gross earnings in 2006 were received by persons in paid employment aged 60 years and more (SIT 7,058,759 or respectively EUR 29,456), and the lowest were received by those aged less then 20 years (SIT 1,960,736 or respectively EUR 8,182). The highest number of persons in paid employment was in age class from 40 to 49 years (31.8%) and their average annual gross earnings amounted to SIT 3,675,519 (EUR 15,338).
