Public bus passenger transport down, railway passenger transport up

In 2006, Slovenian carriers in public road and railway transport carried more than 54 million passengers. In comparison with 2001, road public transport decreased by 47%, while railway transport increased by 11%. In comparison with 2001, also public bus transport within city limits decreased by 11%.

More passengers in air transport

In recent years, air passenger transport performed by the Slovenian air carrier in international transport has grown. More than a million passengers were carried in 2006, which is 27% more than in 2001. The number of passengers who arrived to the Slovenian international airports and departed from them jumped by 51%.

Majority of inland goods transport performed by road

In the last six years more than 80% of inland goods transport expressed in tonnes was performed by road goods vehicles. In 2006, Slovenian road goods vehicles carried almost 87 million tonnes of goods, which represented an increase of 27% over 2003. In the same comparison 17 million tonnes of goods were carried by rail, which represented an increase of 8%.

In the last two years (2005 and 2006) Slovenian road goods vehicles performed more tonne kilometers than in 2001. In 2005, tonne kilometres jumped by 57% and in 2006 by 72%. The share of road transport by tonne kilometres performed in 2006 represented 78% in total goods transport.

In 2006 more goods also at the Slovenian carrier's ships and in three Slovenian ports than in 2001

In the period from 2001 to 2006 the Slovenian sea carrier carried most goods in 2005 and 2006 (over 5.5 million tonnes), which is 60% more than in 2001.
Also in three Slovenian ports traffic of goods increased quite a lot in recent years. In 2006, 15 million tonnes of goods were loaded to ships and unloaded from them. In comparison with 2001 this represented 69% more tonnes of goods.

Most registered passenger cars per person in Obalno-Kraška region

Data show that almost every second person in Slovenia had a car in 2006. Most passenger cars per 1000 people were registered in Obalno-kraška and Goriška statistical regions (549 and 545 cars, respectively) and the fewest in Zasavska statistical region (430 cars per 1000 people).

The average age of Slovenian cars in 2001 was 6.9 years and in 2006 7.6 years. In 2001 the oldest cars were driven in Pomurska region where the average age of cars was 7.8 years. The newest cars, which had on average 6.4 years, were registered in Osrednjeslovenska region; then followed those 6.8 years old in Koroška, Gorenjska, Jugovzhodna Slovenia and Obalno-kraška regions. In 2006, the highest average age of cars was found in Spodnjeposavska region (8.4 years) and the lowest in Osrednjeslovenska and Obalno-kraška regions (7 and 7.4 years, respectively).

Number of persons killed in traffic accidents per 10,000 people and per 10,000 registered vehicles dropped in 2006 over 2001

In 2006, the number of persons killed in road traffic accidents per 10,000 people as well as per 10,000 registered motor vehicles slightly dropped over 2001. In Slovenia in 2006 there was 1.3 person killed per 10,000 people, mostly in Obalno-kraška region (2.2 persons) and in Pomurska region (1.9 persons); the fewest persons killed in traffic accidents per 10,000 people were registered in Zasavska region (0.2). In 2006 the number of persons killed per 10,000 registered motor vehicles in Slovenia was 2.2 persons. This indicator also shows the highest value in Obalno-kraška region (3.2 persons) and in Pomurska region (3 persons); the fewest persons killed per 10,000 registered motor vehicles were registered in Zasavska region (0.5).
