Fiscal burden of taxable persons by taxes and social contributions, Slovenia, 2002-2006
Wednesday, September 26, 2007, First Release
In 2006 total fiscal burden by taxes and social contributions in GDP decreased
Total fiscal burden by taxes and social contributions in 2006 amounted to 39.4% of GDP, which is 0.2 of a percentage point less than in 2005 From 2002 to 2005 the total fiscal burden by taxes and social contributions was increasing for the whole time (from 38.8% of GDP in 2002 to 39.6% of GDP in 2005), but it reduced to the level of 39.4% of GDP in 2006. In 2006 fiscal revenues amounted to SIT 1,813,303 million or 24.9% of GDP, which is the same as in 2005. Revenues from social contributions amounted to SIT 1,058,500 million in 2006 or 14.5% of GDP, which is 0.2 of a percentage point less than in the previous years. In 2006 the growth of fiscal revenues in GDP stopped, but the share of social contributions decreased slightly.
In 2006 the trend of increasing fiscal revenues in GDP stopped: the main reason for the reduction of total fiscal burden was the reduction of social contributions In 2006 social contributions were for 0.2 of a percantage point lower than in 2005, above all because of lower actual social contributions of employees. In 2006 the share of fiscal revenues in GDP remains at the same level as in 2005, only their structure has changed. In 2006 current taxes on income and wealth amounted to 9.3% of GDP, which is 0.5 of a percentage point more than in 2005 – taxes on individual or household income increased by 0.3 of a percentage point and taxes on income or profits of corporations by 0.2 of a percentage point. In 2006 their shares in GDP were 5.9% and 3.0% respectively. Taxes on production and imports were 0.5 of a percentage point lower than in 2005 as in 2006 their share in GDP was 15.5%. Other taxes on production contributed the most to the reduction of these taxes: they were reduced by 0.4 of a percentage point – of which payroll tax by 0.3 of a percentage point. In 2006 other taxes on production represented 2.5% of GDP and the payroll tax 1.5% of GDP. On the other hand, the value added tax has been stable at 8.7% of GDP from 2002 on.
Slovenia contributed to Community budget 0.8% of total revenues from fiscal burden in 2006 After the accession of Slovenia to the EU in 2004, Slovenia is obliged to yield payments of own resources to Community budget. These revenues are collected in respect of the value added tax and traditional own resources (customs duties, sugar levies). In 2004 Slovenia contributed to Community budget SIT 10,987 million or 0.4% of total revenues from fiscal burden and in 2006 already SIT 21,652 million or 0.8% of total revenues from fiscal burden, which is 0.1 of a percentage point more than in 2005.
