Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, Slovenia, February 2012 - final data

In February 2012 fewer animals were slaughtered than in the previous month
In comparison with the previous month, in February 2012 the slaughter of pigs was lower by about 12%, of horses by almost 9%, of cattle by about 6% and of poultry by almost 6%. In the same comparison the slaughter of sheep was higher by about 30%.

Compared to January 2012, the total weight of dressed carcasses of animals slaughtered in February 2012 decreased, the only exception is the weight of dressed carcases of sheep, which increased by more than 48%. In the same comparison the weight of dressed carcases of horses decreased by almost 9%, of pigs by almost 9%, of poultry by more than 6% and of cattle by about 6%.

Compared to February 2011, in February 2012 the slaughter of sheep was higher by about 17%, of pigs by almost 3% and of poultry by almost 3%. On the other hand, the slaughter of horses and cattle was lower by almost 4%, each.

Compared to February 2011, the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep slaughtered in February 2012 was higher by more than 20%, of poultry by almost 19% and of pigs by more than 5%. Meanwhile, the weight of dressed carcasses of horses decreased by almost 5% and of cattle by about 4%.


In February 2012, 260 heads of imported cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses (almost 41% less than in the previous month); their total dressed carcass weight was 47 tons or about 57% less than in the previous month. The cattle were imported from Hungary and the Slovak Republic. In February 2012 no slaughter of imported pigs was recorded in Slovene slaughterhouses.
