Student enrolment in vocational colleges, universities and single higher education institutions, Slovenia, 2011/2012 - provisional data

According to provisional data, in the academic year 2011/12, 14,768 students are enrolled in vocational colleges, while 73,395 students are enrolled in higher undergraduate studies at universities and single higher education institutions.

Fewer students enrolled in vocational colleges than in previous academic years

According to data provided by the Higher Vocational Education Admissions Office, in the academic year 2011/12 14,768 students are enrolled in vocational colleges, i.e. nearly 1,000 students fewer than in the previous year. 7,600 students are new entrants. While in the past there were more part-time students (five years ago every third student was a full-time student), in 2010/11 the share of full-time students was almost equal to the share of part-time students and in 2011/12 the number of full-time students exceeds the number of part-time students.

As regards the field of education according to the KLASIUS-P classification system, most students in vocational colleges are studying engineering, manufacturing and construction (29%), followed by social sciences, business and law (28%) and services (22%).

85,287 students enrolled in higher undergraduate studies and in master study programmes (2nd Bologna cycle) at universities and single higher education institutions

According to data provided by the Ministry of Higher Education and Technology (MVZT), 73,395 students are enrolled in higher undergraduate studies and uniform master’s study (2nd Bologna cycle) at universities and single higher education institutions with a concession. 82.6% of students are full-time students and 19.9% of students are candidates for graduation.

Because for the fourth year higher education institutions are only enrolling students in Bologna study programmes, according to MVZT data in the academic year 2011/12 already 58,626 students are enrolled in higher undergraduate 1st Bologna cycle programmes and uniform master’s study (2nd Bologna cycle) programmes.

The number of students enrolled in master study programmes (2nd Bologna cycle) is increasing – in the academic year 2011/12 MVZT reports 11,892 students.

1) Data include students of 2nd degree uniform master study programs, because these are programs that replaced the previous »long« (9 or 10 semesters) undergraduate university studies.
2) Decimal places in the presented data appear due to the nature of the two-subject studies, which enable studying at two higher education institutions or in two different years of study at the same time.
3) New entrants means first enrolled in this study course.

The source of data on students enrolled in vocational colleges is the Higher Vocational Education Admissions Office, whereas the source of data on students enrolled in higher undergraduate studies and uniform master’s study (2nd Bologna cycle) at universities and single higher education institutions is the Ministry of Higher Education and Technology (MVZT).
Data on enrolment are provisional; Data are shown as of 15 November 2010 (higher education institutions - source: MVZT) and as of 31 October 2010 (vocational colleges – source: Higher Vocational Education Admissions Office).
