At higher education institutions there were 8,474 teachers and other professional personnel supporting the educational process
In the academic year 2010/11, 8,474 personnel with full teaching load or more or with part-time teaching load were teaching or supporting the educational process in undergraduate and postgraduate studies at higher education institutions; of those 5,361 members of teaching faculty, 2,988 faculty assistants and 125 members of research faculty. Calculated to full-time teaching load – in view of the valid standards – the total number of personnel teaching or supporting the educational process at higher education institutions was 5,898.1.

18 students per member of teaching faculty
In the observed period there were on average 18.38 students per member of teaching faculty. If we take into account faculty assistants and research workers as well, one of them covered 11 students. The calculation is based on the recalculated number of instructional staff and students to full-time[1].

At vocational colleges there were more than 2,000 members of instructional and professional support staff
Vocational colleges had 2,030 members of instructional and professional support staff. Calculated to full-time teaching load, the number was 619.8.

Men prevailed as members of teaching faculty; one fifth of teaching faculty members are older than 60 years
Among members of teaching faculty at higher education institutions 35.9% were women (Chart 1). On the other hand, the share of male and female staff among professional staff at vocational colleges is almost the same.
The majority of members of teaching faculty at higher education institutions are between 40 and 60 years old (Chart 2) and as many as 21% 60 years of age or more. On the other hand, professional staff at vocational colleges is younger, only 9.7% are older than 60 years of age.
