Average air temperatures and precipitations by meteorological stations, Slovenia, 2009 - final data
Wednesday, May 26, 2010, First Release
Average annual air temperature in 2009 was the highest in Portorož and the lowest at Kredarica. Most precipitation fell in Bovec and the least in Portorož.
Meteorological stations
Slovenia has a diverse relief, which is why a lot of meteorological monitoring stations in different locations are needed. They show conditions at different altitudes. Data are collected from 20 meteorological stations at which various meteorological phenomena are measured; some of the stations are automatic, which means than only some meteorological phenomena are measured there. Annual air temperatures
In 2009 average annual air temperature in Slovenia was 9.8°C; average January temperature was -2.2°C and average July temperature 19.4°C. In Slovenia the highest average annual air temperature in 2009 was registered in Portorož (14.1°C) and lowest at Kredarica (-0.8°C), which is also the only meteorological station where the average annual air temperature was below 0°C. Average air temperatures in January were in 2009 higher than the freezing point only in Portorož, Bilje and Slap pri Vipavi. In the rest of Slovenia these temperatures were below 0°C, the lowest, of course, at Kredarica (-7.6°C). The lowest average air temperature in July was recorded at Kredarica (7.7°C) and the highest in Portorož (23.3°C). Annual amount of precipitations
In 2009, the total annual amount of precipitations in Slovenia was 1552 mm, in January 125 mm and in July 135 mm. In 2009, the maximum amount of precipitations, almost 3,000 mm, fell in Bovec. More precipitation than the Slovenian average fell in Rateče, Planica and Kredarica. The minimum amount of precipitations in the whole year fell in the littoral area of Slovenia (Portorož) and in the Pannonian part of Slovenia (Murska Sobota) – in each below 1.000 mm. The amount of precipitations differs significantly between months. Most meteorological stations recorded maximum amounts of precipitations in December and minimum amounts in May or September. For example, as much as 20% of annual precipitations in Bovec fell in December. The minimum amount of precipitations in one month fell in Portorož in July (21 mm). Time series of the data on average annual and monthly air temperatures and annual and monthly amount of precipitations by meteorological stations have already been published in the SI-STAT database: for the 1981-1990 and 1991-2000 periods average values for abovementioned data are accessible and for 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 actual values.
Data on average annual and monthly air temperatures and annual and monthly amount of precipitations by meteorological stations are published annually in Statistical Yearbook, the chapter on territory and climate. Table 1: Annual precipitations by meteorological stations, Slovenia, 2009
