Inflation, which shows the change in prices, is in Slovenia measured with the consumer price index; this index shows changes in retail prices of goods and services from the point of view of the expenditure structure, which the resident population intends for final consumption at home and abroad. To compare rates of inflation among EU member states, we also calculate the harmonised index of consumer prices, which measures changes in the level of retail prices of goods and services from the point of view of the expenditure structure which consumers (domestic and foreign) intend for final consumption in the territory of Slovenia (domestic concept).
EMU convergence price index, which is one of the convergence criteria, is calculated as a 12-month average harmonised index of consumer prices.
During the preparation for euro adoption, especially in the period of double pricing and six months after it was introduced, in addition to regular monitoring of consumer prices the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia is preparing additional analyses for those subgroups of goods and services that have the greatest impact on inflation and whose prices deviate most from the trends in the past five years.
Detailed price analyses are published for:
- Goods/services with the greatest impact on inflation
- Goods/services with the greatest price deviation in the past five years
In addition, the Slovene Consumers’ Association according to the methodology of the International Consumer Research Institute by agreement between the Ministry of the Economy, the Slovene Consumers’ Association and the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia publishes data on prices of individual goods or services and draws attention to large, unjustified rises or falls in prices, stating the specific producer and product or service.
