| National statistics> Mission of the Slovene Statistical Office Building of trust and confidence of users and data providers
Trust and confidence of users and data providers are built through the strict application of statistical data protection principles and rules, including those for statistical confidentiality. Data collected with statistical reports can be used for statistical purposes only and shown as aggregates, so that it is not possible to identify individual reporting units. Micro data with identification obtained from reporting units or from administrative sources can only be used for statistical purposes. Anonimised micro data can be used for research purposes. For the purpose of surveying, the registered researchers and research institutions can also be given name, address, year of birth, sex and occupation of an individual. SORS are a legally authorised institution for linking data at micro level thus prepares most samples for researchers in Slovenia. Personal Data Protection Act (1999, 2001) very strictly defines the conditions for the treatment of personal data. Rules on technical, organisational as well as IT matters in handling the data were put in the internal rules of procedure for institutions carrying out statistical surveys.
Statistical programs (annual and medium-term), which are published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Slovenia, present a catalogue of all requests for statistical data. Modern ICT offers the possibility of integrated and standardised approach to data collection (B2G and C2G), which is one of the infrastructural tasks for the next year. All statistical surveys in the programme are not obligatory; SORS defined the criteria when the reporting can be voluntary.
