Register-based statistics

In close co-operation with Nordic countries, for more than 30 years SORS has been developing the statistical environment based on registers, especially on building infrastructural administrative registers and uniform identification numbers (PIN, BIN, centroid). SORS still plays an important role in development projects in the field of administrative records. Influence on the introduction of statistical classifications as a national standard, keeping uniform identifications, providing opinion on methodological bases of data collection and access of producers of national statistics to administrative records at micro level still remain primary long-term objectives of Slovenian national statistics in the future.

In the past SORS developed basic administrative registers and transferred them to other institutions. The Register of Territorial Units was taken over by the Surveying and Mapping Authority in 1995, the Central Population Register by the Ministry of the Interior in 1998 and the Business Register of Slovenia by the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Public and Legal Records and Services in July 2002.
