Programmes of statistical surveys

The main tasks of national statistics are specified in the annual and medium-term programmes of statistical surveys. Programmes of statistical surveys are documents describing statistical requirements for national and international needs. In determining the first programme, the Office developed, in co-operation with other partners in the statistical system, methodological bases of programming, which via a transparent classification system take into account links between national and international needs as well as the importance of appropriate statistical support for various policies.

Programmes are medium-term (adopted by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia) and annual (determined by the Head of SORS in co-operation with authorized producers). Both programmes are prepared by SORS together with the authorized producers and published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Slovenia.


Medium-term programmes

The medium-term programmes of statistical surveys are adopted by the Government for a 5-year period of validity and published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Slovenia. The medium-term programme contents are: strategy, administrative capacity and infrastructural tasks. The main goal is to anticipate statistical coverage of demands for data which are needed for the implementation of policies in the next medium-term period. The authorized producers of national statistics are determined for each period in the medium term programme.

Reports

On the basis of the second paragraph of Article 25 of the National Statistics Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, Nos. 45/95 and 9/01, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia at its 7th regular session on 7 January 2009 took note of the Report on the Implementation of the Medium-term Programme of the Statistical Surveys 2003 – 2007.

On the basis of the first indent of Article 13 of the National Statistics Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, nos. 45/95 in 9/01), at its 18th regular session on 14 December 2005, the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Interim Report on the Implementation of the Medium-term Programme of Statistical Surveys 2003-2007.

Annual programmes

The medium-term programme is the corner-stone for the preparation of the annual programme, which consists of regular and development tasks and is arranged by chapters, themes and modules where the modules comprise adequate statistical surveys. Due to better comparability, the structure of the annual programmes follows the structure of the EU Commission annual statistical programmes. Each June SORS and authorized producers present their proposals on priorities for regular and development tasks for the next year to the Statistical Council.

At the moment the annual programmes are available only in the Slovene language.

Reports

Draft yearly report on the implementation of the annual programme is prepared by SORS and authorized producers and is then submitted to the Statistical Council. The final report includes opinions and suggestions of the Statistical Council. The report is published as a brochure which is submitted to the members of the statistical advisory committees.
