What is national statistics

National statistics is a professionally independent activity of implementing programs of statistical surveys. SORS is the main producer and co-ordinator of this activity. In implementing programs of statistical surveys, authorised producers determined with medium-term programs are also important.

Fundamental principles of national statistic

National Statistics Act defines the following fundamental principles:

• Professional and institutional independence
• Statistical confidentiality
• Availability, accessibility and clarity of information
• International comparability
• Transparency of methodology
• Rational use of resources

In addition to unambiguous legal principles, national statistics respects in its work several other principles adopted by the international statistical community, such as:

• Relevance of statistical concepts
• Accuracy
• Timeliness, punctuality and coherence in disseminating results
• Completeness of statistical data coverage
