What is national statistics
National statistics is a professionally independent activity of implementing programs of statistical surveys. SORS is the main producer and co-ordinator of this activity. In implementing programs of statistical surveys, authorised producers determined with medium-term programs are also important.

National
Statistics Act defines the following fundamental
principles:
- Professional and institutional independence
- Statistical confidentiality
- Availability, accessibility and clarity
of information
- International comparability
- Transparency of methodology
- Rational use of resources
In addition to unambiguous legal principles,
national statistics respects in its work several
other principles adopted by the international
statistical community, such as:
- Relevance of statistical concepts
- Accuracy
- Timeliness, punctuality and coherence
in disseminating results
- Completeness of statistical data coverage
