Explanation about the database of territorial units

In a simple way users can learn the following:

  • How many settlements or streets in Slovenia have the same name and how often is an individual name repeated;
  • Where the settlements or streets you are inquiring about are located;
  • The municipality of the settlement, and the municipality and settlement of the street you are inquiring about;
  • Basic data on settlements you are inquiring about (number of population, number of men and women, population density, settlement area, number of families and households, average number of household members, number of dwellings);
  • How many house numbers there are in the streets you are inquiring about;
  • Data on the smallest and the largest settlements;

  • Please note that the english version of comments on territorial changes is not available.

The database of names of territorial units covers all settlements (6,028) and streets (10,085) in Slovenia as of 1 January 2009.

The source for the names of settlements and streets, for the number of house numbers and for data regarding the area is the Register of Spatial Units kept by the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia.

The source for population data (in the first table) is the 2002 Census of Population, Households and Housing, which was conducted by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. The source for population data as of 31 December 2007 and 31 December 2008 (in the second table) is the Ministry of the Interior (the Central Population Register and the Register of Foreigners).
