Rail goods transport
In 2014 almost 18 million tonnes of goods were carried by train and over 4,110 million tonne-kilometres were performed. Compared with 2013, the railway goods transport increased by 5%, expressed in tonnes, and also by 8%, expressed in tonne-kilometres. 82% of goods were carried in the international transport. In 2014 2.6 million tonnes of goods in transit were carried and 715 million tonne-kilometres were performed, which is 18% increase, expressed in tonnes, and 24% increase, expressed in tonne-kilometres, compared to 2013.
Considering the type of goods most so-called other goods (unidentifiable goods in containers and a mixture of types of goods) were carried by train (30.5%, expressed in tonnes, and 32.1%, expressed in tonne-kilometres). Second most carried type of goods were mining and quarrying. They represented almost 20% expressed in tonnes, and 19.7%, expressed in tonne-kilometres. Third most carried type of goods were coal, gas, petrol and refined products (18.5%, or 16.8%).
In 2014 almost 2 million tonnes of dangerous goods were carried by train. The share of flammable liquids was 88.3%.
The railway network in the Republic of Slovenia consists of 1,209 km of railway lines, of which 330 km of lines are double tracks and 500 km are electrified. Slovenian Railways possesed 310 tractive vehicles, 156 of them were locomotives, 154 railcars, 355 passenger vehicles and 3,148 freight wagons. There were 335 freight wagons in private property, which is 18% less than in year 2013.
