In March 2015, more animals were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses than in February 2015.
In March 2015 about 2,562,000 poultry, about 20,000 pigs and about 10,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses.

In March 2015 more animals slaughtered than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, in March 2015 the number of sheep slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses was higher by about 320% (total slaughter of sheep in March was about 1,700 animals, which is about 1,300 animals more), of cattle by about 29% (i.e. about 2,200 animals more), of pigs by about 8% (i.e. about 1,500 animals more), of poultry by about 7% (i.e. about 171,000 animals more) and of horses by exactly 7% (i.e. exactly 8 animals more).

The total carcass weight of slaughtered animals in March 2015 follows the trend of changes in the number of slaughtered animals. Compared to February 2015, the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep slaughtered in March 2015 increased by exactly 227% (weight difference of about 12,000 kg), of cattle by exactly 28% (weight difference of about 636,000 kg), of pigs by about 8% (weight difference of about 129,000 kg), of poultry by about 7% (weight difference of about 312,000 kg) and of horses also by about 7% (weight difference of about 1,600 kg).


In March 2015 more sheep, cattle and poultry slaughtered than in March 2014
Compared to March 2014, in March 2015 the number of slaughtered sheep was higher by about 151%, of cattle by about 11% and of poultry by about 3%. The number of slaughtered horses was lower by about 8% and of pigs by about 2%.

Compared to March 2014, the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep slaughtered in March 2015 increased by about 109% and of cattle by about 14%, while the total weight of dressed carcasses of horses decreased by about 10%, of poultry by about 5% and of pigs by about 5%.


In March 2015, 44 cattle imported from Romania, Italy and Hungary with the total carcass weight of about 14 tons were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses. There was no slaughter of imported pigs or poultry.

Methodological note

Data on the slaughter of animals in large slaughterhouses are collected with monthly reports sent by slaughterhouses. Data on the slaughter of animals in smaller slaughterhouses are acquired from the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection (AFSVPP). Data on bovine slaughter are acquired from the Bovine Administrative Register (BAR), which is kept by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food (MAFF).

Monthly data for 2015 are provisional. With each First Release the data can be corrected and completed with new data. Final data for 2015 will be published by the end of February 2016.

Detailed data
Detailed data and time series are available on the SI-STAT data portal, which enables simple browsing and exporting of data in various formats. Registered users have the possibility to store tables for later browsing and to sign up to be informed when data are updated.
