In 2014 Slovenian goods vehicles carried 13% more goods than in 2013
Road goods vehicles registered in Slovenia carried 74 million tonnes of goods and performed 16 billion tonne-kilometres in 2014.

More goods carried, the number of tonne-kilometres almost the same as in the previous year

In 2014, 74 million tonnes of goods were carried in road goods transport; 51 million tonnes in national and 23 million tonnes in international transport. Compared to 2013, 19% more goods were carried in national transport and only 3% more in international transport. The data expressed in tonne-kilometres show an increase in 2014 in national transport and almost the same number of tonne-kilometres in international transport as in the previous year. In national transport almost 2 billion tonne-kilometres were performed or 9% more than in 2013. The number of tonne-kilometres performed in international transport was almost the same as in the previous year (14 billion tonne-kilometres).

Almost two-thirds of all goods carried in national transport

In national transport 68% of all goods were carried and 13% of all tonne-kilometres were performed. In international transport 32% of all goods were carried and 87% of all tonne-kilometres were performed.
A more detailed breakdown of international transport shows that from Slovenia to foreign countries 11%, in the opposite direction 9%, between two foreign countries almost 9% and in cabotage 3% of all goods were carried.
The shares of tonne-kilometres in international transport are completely different, because the distances in the international transport are longer: from Slovenia to foreign countries 26%, in the opposite direction 21%, in transport between two foreign countries 36% and in cabotage 4% of all tonne-kilometres were performed.

Most goods carried by Slovenian roads were mining and quarrying goods and in international transport goods that cannot be grouped in any other group (other goods)

The majority of goods carried in 2014 belonged to groups of goods mining and quarrying (33%) and products of agriculture, forestry and fishing (13%). In no other group the share of goods carried exceeded 10%.
In national transport too the majority of goods belonged to groups of goods mining and quarrying (47%) and products of agriculture, forestry and fishing (11%). In international transport the majority of goods carried were goods that cannot be grouped in any other group (20%), followed by the group of manufactured products (18%).

In international transport most goods were carried between Slovenia and the neighbouring countries of Italy and Austria

Road goods vehicles registered in Slovenia carried from foreign countries to Slovenia almost 7 million tonnes of goods. Most of goods, almost a third, were loaded in Italy, 23% in Austria, almost 14% in Germany, 10% in Croatia and 6% in Hungary. The share of goods loaded in other countries did not exceed 4% (each). In the opposite direction (from Slovenia to foreign countries) road goods vehicles carried almost 8 million tonnes of goods: almost 38% to Italy, 22% to Austria and 14% to Germany. The share of goods unloaded in other countries did not exceed 5% (each).
