In January 2015, fewer animals were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses than in December 2014.
Slaughter in January 2015
In January 2015 about 2,779,000 poultry, about 19,000 pigs and about 9,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses.

In January 2015 fewer animals slaughtered than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, in January 2015 the number of sheep slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses was lower by about 47% (i.e. about 300 animals), of cattle by about 28% (i.e. about 3,000 animals), of pigs by exactly 19% (i.e. about 5,000 animals), of horses by about 4% (i.e. exactly 6 animals) and of poultry by about 1% (i.e. about 38,000 animals).

Compared to December 2014, the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep slaughtered in January 2015 decreased by about 40% (weight difference of about 3,000 kg), of cattle by about 25% (weight difference of about 881,000 kg), of pigs by about 15% (weight difference of about 285,000 kg), of poultry by about 3% (weight difference of about 159,000 kg) and of horses by exactly 3% (weight difference of about 1,000 kg).


In January 2015 more sheep and poultry slaughtered than in January 2013
Compared to January 2014, in January 2015 the number of slaughtered sheep was higher by exactly 35% and of poultry by exactly 5%. The number of slaughtered pigs was about the same, but with a positive trend. At the same time the number of slaughtered horses was lower by about 10% and of cattle by about 4%.

Compared to January 2014, the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep slaughtered in January 2015 increased by about 38% and of poultry by about 6%, while the total weight of dressed carcasses of horses decreased by about 8%, of pigs by exactly 2% and of cattle by about 2%.


In January 2015, 2,064 poultry imported from Hungary with the total carcass weight of about 23 tons and 75 pigs imported from Austria with the total carcass weight of about 1 ton were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses. There was no slaughter of imported cattle.

Monthly data for 2015 are provisional. With each First Release the data can be corrected and completed with new data. Final data for 2015 will be published by the end of February 2016.
