Exports and imports in May 2018 higher than in May 2017

In the January-May 2018 period Slovenian exports increased by 11.0% and imports by 10.8% over the same period of 2017.

Exports and imports in May 2018 higher than in May 2017

Exports in May 2018 amounted to EUR 2.6 billion and were 10.1% higher than in May 2017, while imports amounted to EUR 2.7 billion and were 10.4% higher than in May 2017. The value of exports in May 2018 was the second largest in 2018 (following only the value in March), and the value of imports was the largest recorded in recent years. Exports in May 2018 were 12.3% higher and imports 15.6% higher than the average value of monthly exports and imports in 2017.

The export/import ratio in May 2018 was 99.5% and the external trade deficit was EUR 13.7 million. The deficit in trade in goods was influenced mostly by increased imports from EU non-member countries.

Trade in goods with EU Member States in May 2018 higher than in May 2017

In May 2018 Slovenia generated 76.7% of all exports and 77.9% of all imports in trade with the EU Member States. The value of goods exported to EU Member States in May 2018 amounted to EUR 2.0 billion and of goods imported from EU Member States to EUR 2.1 billion (this means a deficit in trade with the EU Member States of EUR 41.1 million). Exports to EU Member States increased by 9.1% and imports by 7.8% compared to May 2017.

The value of goods exported to EU non-member countries in May 2018 amounted to EUR 615.3 million and of goods imported from EU non-member countries to EUR 587.9 million (the largest recorded in recent years). In May 2018 a trade surplus of EUR 27.4 million was recorded in trading with the mentioned countries. Exports to EU non-member countries increased by 13.5% and imports by 20.4% compared to May 2017.

In the first five months of 2018 Slovenia’s trade in goods increased over the same period of 2017

Slovenia’s exports in the first five months of 2018 amounted to EUR 12.7 billion (an 11.0% increase over the same period of 2017), and imports to EUR 12.4 billion (a 10.8% increase over the same period of 2017). The external trade surplus in the first five months of 2018 was EUR 256.7 million and the export/import ratio was 102.1%.
