EUR 734 million dividends paid in Slovenia in 2017, 8.3% more than in 2016

In 2017, EUR 734 million dividends were paid. This is 8.3% more than in 2016. Most dividends were paid to the sector general government, EUR 279 million.

EUR 734 million dividends paid in 2017

The financial corporations sector paid the most dividends, EUR 389 million or 53.0% of all payments. Most was paid to the government sector (EUR 176 million or 45.2%) and the rest of the world sector (EUR 145 million or 37.3%). The non-financial corporations sector paid a total of EUR 345 million, which is 47.0% of all payments. As in the case of the financial corporations sector, non-financial corporations also had most payments to the general government sector (EUR 103 million or 29.9%), followed by households (EUR 83 million or 24.0%), and non-financial corporations (EUR 67 million or 19.3% of all payments). As in 2016, the general government sector did not pay any dividends in 2017.

The biggest receiver of dividends in 2017 was the general government sector

Most dividends in 2017 were paid to the general government sector, EUR 279 million or 38% of all payments, followed by the rest of the world sector (EUR 203 million), households (EUR 95 million), financial corporations (EUR 77 million) and non-financial corporations (EUR 73 million). The lowest amount was paid to non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH), EUR 7 million or 1% of all payments.

More dividends paid than in 2016

The dividends payments increased by 8.3% in 2017 compared with 2016; from EUR 678 million in 2016 to EUR 734 million in 2017. If we compare payments of dividends by individual sectors in 2016 and 2017, we see that they increased the most in the general government sector, i.e. by 57.9% (EUR 177 million in 2016 and EUR 279 million in 2017). Payments increased also in the NPISH sector (by 34.2%) and households (by 8.8%). On the other hand, payments decreased in the financial corporations sector (EUR 105 million in 2016, EUR 77 million in 2017), the non-financial corporations sector (EUR 90 million in 2016, EUR 73 million in 2017) and the rest of the world sector (EUR 213 million in 2016, EUR 203 million in 2017).
