In 2016 Slovenia exported almost 4% more goods than it imported

In 2016 Slovenia exported more goods than it imported. As regards modes of transport, road goods transport dominated both at export and at import. Road vehicles were the most common goods exported from and imported to Slovenia.

Exports larger than imports

In 2016 Slovenia exported EUR 25 billion of goods and imported EUR 24.1 billion of goods. The trade balance, i.e. the ratio between exports and imports, was positive at EUR 859 million. In value terms, Slovenia exported almost 4% more than it imported.
As regards modes of transport, in value terms road transported dominated both at export and at import, followed by sea transport with a much lower share.



Slovenia trades most with other EU Member States; 76% of total exports and 81% of total imports. For Slovenia the most important trading partner is Germany with almost EUR 21 billion of exports and over EUR 19 billion of imports.

Road vehicles: our top export and import

What did we export and import the most in 2016? In value terms, most of total imports (13%) were road vehicles, followed by electrical machinery and appliances (7%) and petroleum and petroleum products (6 %). Most of total exports (15%) were road vehicles, followed by medicinal and pharmaceutical products (10%) and electrical machinery and appliances (almost 10%).
