In September 2017 more meat gained in Slovene slaughterhouses than a month before

In September 2017 about 3,201,000 poultry, about 17,000 pigs and about 10,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses.

In September 2017 more animals slaughtered than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, the number of horses slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses was higher by about 105% (i.e. exactly 60 animals), of cattle by about 25% (i.e. about 2,000 animals) and of pigs by about 6% (i.e. about 1,000 animals). On the other hand, the slaughter of sheep went down by about 20% (i.e. 200 animals) and of poultry by about 3% (i.e. about 85,000 animals).

The total carcass weight more or less followed the trends in the number of slaughtered animals. The total carcass weight of slaughtered horses increased by about 118% (weight difference of about 15,000 kg), the total carcass weight of cattle by about 21% (weight difference of about 525,000 kg) and the total carcass weight of pigs by about 11% (weight difference of about 151,000 kg). On the other hand, in the same comparison the weight of slaughtered sheep went down by about 21% (weight difference of about 3,000 kg) and of poultry by exactly 3% (weight difference of about 177,000 kg).


In September 2017 more animals slaughtered than in September 2016
Compared to September 2016, the number of horses slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in September 2017 was higher by about 44%, of cattle by about 8% and of poultry by about 4%. In the same comparison the number of slaughtered sheep decreased by about 14% and of pigs by about 8%.

The total weight of dressed carcasses of horses slaughtered in September 2017 increased by about 46%, of poultry by about 4% and of cattle by about 2%. In the same comparison the total weight of dressed carcasses of slaughtered sheep went down by about 14% and of pigs by about 6%.


In September 2017 we recorded slaughter of 4 cattle imported from Italy; their total weight of dressed carcass was about 1 ton. In addition, we recorded slaughter of 251 pigs imported from Croatia and Hungary; their total carcass weight was about 24 tons. There was no record of slaughter of imported poultry.
