In the January-September 2017 period Slovenian exports increased by 12.7% and imports by 13.9% over the same period of 2016.
Exports and imports in September 2017 higher than in September 2016
Slovenia’s exports in September 2017 were 14.1% higher than in September 2016 (amounting to EUR 2,617.0 million), while imports during the same period were 10.7% higher (amounting to EUR 2,358.3 million). The value of both exports and imports also increased in September 2017 compared to average values of monthly exports and imports in the past year (exports by 25.8% and imports by 17.4%). Compared to the other months of 2017, in absolute terms September's exports were first, while imports were fourth.
The export/import ratio in September 2017 was 111.0%. The external trade surplus amounted to EUR 258.7 million and was thus the highest in 2017.
Trade in goods with EU Member States higher in September 2017 than in September 2016
Most of the Slovenia’s trade in September 2017 was generated in trade with EU Member States, 75.7% of total exports and 80.3% of total imports. The value of goods exported to EU Member States in September 2017 amounted to EUR 1,980.2 million and of goods imported from EU Member States to EUR 1,894.8 million. Exports to EU Member States in the mentioned period thus increased by 13.4% and imports by 8.9% compared to September 2016.
The value of goods exported to EU non-member countries in September 2017 amounted to EUR 636.8 million and of goods imported from EU non-member countries to EUR 463.5 million. Exports to EU non-member countries in the mentioned period thus increased by 16.4% and imports by 18.5% compared to September 2016.
Increase in exports and imports from January to September 2017 compared to the same period of 2016
Slovenia’s exports in the first nine months of 2017 amounted to EUR 20,939.6 million and imports to EUR 20,232.2 million. Exports increased by 12.7% and imports by 13.9% compared to the same period of 2016. External trade surplus in the mentioned period amounted to EUR 707.4 million and the export/import ratio was 103.5%. The external trade surplus was recorded in all months except in August.
In the period from January to September 2017 Slovenia traded most intensively with Germany, Italy, Austria and Croatia. In that period Slovenia exported most products from the group motor cars and other motor vehicles and the group medicaments, and imported most products from the group motor cars and other motor vehicles and the group petroleum oil and oils obtained from bituminous minerals.
