In August 2017 less meat gained in Slovene slaughterhouses than a month before

In August 2017 about 3,286,000 poultry, about 16,000 pigs and about 8,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses.

In August 2017 fewer animals slaughtered than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, the number of horses slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses was lower by exactly 23% (i.e. about 20 animals), of pigs by exactly 13% (i.e. about 2,000 animals), of poultry by about 7% (i.e. about 263,000 animals) and of sheep by about 4% (i.e. about 50 animals). On the other hand, the slaughter of cattle went up by about 9% (i.e. 1.000 animals).

The total carcass weight more or less followed the trends in the number of slaughtered animals. The total carcass weight of slaughtered cattle increased by about 7% (weight difference of about 157,000 kg), while the total carcass weight of sheep was about the same as in the previous month, but with a positive trend (weight difference of about 45 kg). On the other hand, in the same comparison the weight of slaughtered horses went down by about 28% (weight difference of about 5,000 kg), of pigs by about 18% (weight difference of about 302,000 kg) and of poultry by about 5% (weight difference of about 303,000 kg).


In August 2017 fewer animals slaughtered than in August 2016
Compared to August 2016, the number of poultry slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in August 2017 was higher by about 8% and of cattle by about 1%. In the same comparison the number of slaughtered horses decreased by about 33%, of pigs by about 24% and of sheep by about 12%.

Compared to August 2016, the total weight of dressed carcasses of poultry slaughtered in August 2017 increased by exactly 12%. In the same comparison the total weight of dressed carcasses of slaughtered horses went down by about 33%, of pigs by about 25%, of sheep by about 11% and of cattle by about 3%.


In August 2017 we recorded slaughter of 1 cattle imported from Italy; its total weight of dressed carcass was 335 kg. In addition, we recorded slaughter of 1,065 pigs imported from Croatia, Hungary and Austria; their total carcass weight was about 98 tons. There was no record of slaughter of imported poultry.
