In 2015 a decline in investment activity. 52.7% of all GFCF generated in Zahodna Slovenija
After two years of growth in gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), we recorded a drop in investment activity in 2015, which is mainly related to the decline in government investment due to the transition to the new European Financial Perspective 2014-2020. In 2015, GFCF amounted to EUR 7,322 million, which is nominally 0.4% higher or in real terms 1.6% lower than in the previous year. More than half of investments were generated in cohesion region Zahodna Slovenija, i.e. 52.7% of all GFCF, which amounts to 11% more than in cohesion region Vzhodna Slovenija.
The majority of investments in service activities generated in cohesion region Zahodna Slovenija
Two thirds of all GFCF were generated in service activities (sections G to U of the Standard Classification of Activities), of which 60% in Zahodna Slovenija. According to the value of investments generated, Zahodna Slovenija dominated over Vzhodna Slovenija most markedly in financial and insurance activities (section K; 87% of GFCF of the industry were generated in Zahodna Slovenija), information and communication activities (section J; 81%) and professional, scientific and technical activites, and administrative and support service activities (sections M and N; 78%).
Basic activities relatively more important in Vzhodna Slovenija
The remaining third of Slovenia's GFCF was generated in basic activities (sections of activities from A to F), most of them in Vzhodna Slovenija (58.7%). In agriculture, forestry and fishing activities (A) 71% of GFCF were generated in the east. 58% were generated in mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity and water supply, and waste management (sections B,C,D,E) and 65% in construction (section F).
In both cohesion regions predominate GFCF in manufacturing and activities of public administration, defense and compulsory social security
In both cohesion regions the largest amount of GFCF in 2015 was generated in manufacturing (section C), i.e. 28.6% of GFCF in Vzhodna Slovenija and 20.2% of GFCF in Zahodna Slovenija, and in public administration, defence, education, and healthcare and social work activities (sections O, P, Q), 22.3% of GFCF in Vzhodna Slovenija and 23.4% of GFCF in Zahodna Slovenija.
We are also publishing revised data for 2013 and 2014
In today’s release on GFCF we are publishing the revised data for 2013 and 2014. The differences from previously published data on GFCF by region are due to routine annual revisions and harmonization with data on investments at the national level.
