The number of persons in paid employment in enterprises employing persons with disabilities up by 5%

Average monthly gross earnings in enterprises employing persons with disabilities were the highest in the Obalno-kraška statistical region, 21.9% higher than average monthly gross earnings of persons employed by all legal persons in Slovenia.

 At the end of 2016 the number of registered enterprises employing persons with disabilities the same as in the previous year

At the end of 2016, 144 enterprises employing persons with disabilities with at least one person employed[1] were registered in the Register of Enterprises Employing Persons with Disabilities, of which 130 were operating in the private sector and only 14 in the public sector. The number of enterprises employing persons with disabilities stayed the same as in the previous year. Most enterprises employing persons with disabilities were still registered in manufacturing (47.2%); however, this share has been declining over the years, while more and more enterprises employing persons with disabilities are operating in administrative and support service activities (26.4% at the end of 2016, which is 7.1 percentage points more than at the end of 2015). Enterprises employing persons with disabilities are not operating in the following activities: mining and quarrying, water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities, financial and insurance activities and public administration and defence, compulsory social security.

Taking into account the size of enterprises employing persons with disabilities with regard to the number of persons in paid employment[2], at the end of 2016 small and large enterprises employing persons with disabilities increased a little than in the previous year (4.9% vs. 45.1% in 2016 and 3.5% vs. 42.4% in 2015), while micro and medium-sized enterprises were slightly less than in the previous year.

The number of persons in paid employment in enterprises employing persons with disabilities increased by 5% at the end of 2016

At the end of 2016, 11,295 persons were employed in 144 enterprises employing persons with disabilities in Slovenia, which is 5% more than in the previous year. The gender ratio of persons employed in enterprises employing persons with disabilities was the same as in the previous years (57% men vs. 43% women). However, the ratio between persons employed in the public and private sectors changed; a quarter of them were employed in the public sector and three quarters in the private sector. The number of persons employed in the public sector increased by 15.4% over the previous year and in the private sector by only 2%. In the private sector 52% men and 48% women were employed, while in the public sector the ratio between men and women was slightly higher (73% men vs. 27% women).

The educational structure of persons in paid employment is slowly changing also in enterprises employing persons with disabilities. Those with upper secondary education still prevailed (59.8% at the end of 2016), while 26.4% had basic education or less and 13.8% had tertiary education. The share of persons in paid employment in enterprises employing persons with disabilities with basic education or less declined by 2.5 percentage points in the last two years, while the share of those with upper secondary education increased by 0.8 of a percentage point and the share of those with tertiary education was at the end of 2016 1.7 percentage points higher than at the end of 2014.

Half of persons in paid employment in enterprises employing persons with disabilities are disabled 

In enterprises employing persons with disabilities constantly around 50% of employees are disabled (50.7% at the end of 2016). This is true both for the public and private sectors (51% in the former and 50.6% in the latter). According to the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment of Disabled Persons Act (ZZRZI, OJ RS, No. 16/07, 87/11 and 98/14), an enterprise employing persons with disabilities has to have during the entire business year at least 40% of employees that are disabled.
 
At the end of 2016, 32,205 disabled persons in employment were employed in Slovenia or 4.4% more than in the previous year. Enterprises employing persons with disabilities were employing 17.8% of all disabled persons or 5,728. The shares of disabled men and women among all persons employed in enterprises employing persons with disabilities were 52.7% and. 48%. While among disabled persons 59.4% were men and 40.6% were women, a quarter of disabled persons in enterprises employing persons with disabilities were employed in the public and the rest in the private sector. The educational structure of disabled persons is slightly worse than of all persons employed in enterprises employing persons with disabilities as only 4.7% of disabled persons had tertiary education, most of the disabled persons had upper secondary education (60.1%), and 35.2% of them had basic education or less.

Average monthly gross earnings in enterprises employing persons with disabilities for 2016 amounted to EUR 1,217.14; compared to earnings for 2015 they were higher in both nominal and real terms (by 2.1% and 2.2%, respectively). Average monthly net earnings in enterprises employing persons with disabilities for 2016 amounted to EUR 817.10; compared to earnings for 2015 they, too, were higher both in nominal and real terms (by 2.0% and 2.1%, respectively).

The highest average monthly gross earnings for 2016 were received by persons in paid employment in enterprises employing persons with disabilities in the Obalno-kraška statistical region; they were 21.9% higher than average monthly gross earnings of persons employed by all legal persons in Slovenia (EUR 1,584.66). In all other statistical regions average monthly gross earnings received by persons in paid employment in enterprises employing persons with disabilities were lower than the national average.




[1] The number of persons in paid employment in enterprises employing persons with disabilities is the same as the number of persons in employment in those enterprises, as enterprises employing persons with disabilities are companies registered as limited liability companies; so there are no self-employed persons in such enterprises. Persons in employment in all other enterprises are persons in paid employment and self-employed persons.
