On 1 April 2017 Slovenia had a population 2,064,836 or 1,059 less than three months earlier. The number of Slovene citizens decreased while the number of foreign citizens increased and reached 5.6%.

Fewer citizens of Slovenia, more foreign citizens

According to the Statistical Office of Slovenia, the population of Slovenia decreased by 1,059 in the first quarter of 2017. The number of citizens of Slovenia decreased by nearly 2,500 (0.1%), while the number of foreign citizens increased by 1,400 (1.2%). On 1 April 2017 the 115,841  foreign citizens represented 5.6% of Slovenia’s population.


Increasing share of women among foreign citizens

On 1 April 2017 the population of Slovenia consisted of 1,025,013 men and 1,039,823 women. The share of women among citizens of Slovenia was 51.3% (this share has been slowly decreasing for a number of years); among foreign citizens there were 35.1% women (their share has increased by 3.0 percentage points in the last four years).
