For irrigation less water was used
In 2016 slightly less water was used for irrigation than in the previous year. 3.4 million m3
of water was 7% less than in 2015. Most of it, 52%, came from accumulations, 24% from running waters, 19% from ground water, and 5% from the public water supply system and from other sources. Thus, from accumulations 4% less water was used and from other sources 10% less water was used for irrigation than in the previous year. Most of the irrigated land was arable land and gardens
In 2016, 3,133 hectares of land in Slovenia were irrigated, which is 1.3% less than in 2015. More than half of the irrigated area (55%) was arable land and gardens, 15% was orchards, olive groves and nurseries, 13% was snow making on ski slopes, 12% was sports fields and only 4% was greenhouses, vineyards and meadows.
