Retail trade turnover in December 2015 lower at the monthly level and higher at the annual level

In December 2015 the volume turnover in retail trade was 0.9% lower at the monthly level and 0.2% higher at the annual level. In 2015 it was 0.7% higher than in 2014.

Retail trade turnover in December 2015 lower at the monthly level and higher at the annual level

In December 2015 the volume turnover in retail trade was down by 0.9% compared to November 2015. This is the result of the lower sale of non-food products (by 3.2%). The sale of non-food products in December 2015 reached the lowest monthly level of sales in 2015. The volume turnover in retail trade of food, beverages and tobacco was 0.5% higher than in November 2015.

The volume turnover in retail trade in December 2015 increased by 0.2% at the annual level. This is the result of higher retail sale in specialised stores with automotive fuel, because in the retail trade except motor fuel the volume turnover was down by 1.6%. The sale of non-food products and the sale of food, beverages and tobacco were lower at the annual level (by 1.5% and by 1.4%, respectively).

In 2015 the volume turnover in retail trade was up by 0.7% compared to 2014. This is mainly the result of the higher sale of non-food products (by 2.0%). The volume turnover in retail trade of food and beverages remained stable, while in specialised stores with automotive fuel it was lower. Detailed data for the first eleven months of 2015 for non-food products (data for December 2015 are not yet available), in comparison with the same period of 2014, show the biggest growth of sale via mail order houses or via the Internet (by 41.1%).

Higher turnover in trade and repair of motor vehicles in December 2015
The volume turnover in wholesale, retail trade and repair of motor vehicles in December 2015 increased at the monthly and at the annual level. Compared to the previous month it increased by 2.2% and compared to the same month of the previous year by 15.6%.

Also wholesale, retail trade and repair of motor vehicles in 2015 expanded significantly. While the average turnover in trade and repair of motor vehicles in the previous years  lagged behind the average turnover from 2008, in 2015 it was for the first time higher (by 11.8%). Compared to 2014 it was higher by 13.8%.
